Walls Talk

Walls Talk is finished - 120 hours of stitching!

John Dean is the photographer. He always does a superb job with my work.

There is lots of clear detail, which is important with this work, particularly because it is all about the materials. Click on the image to zoom in on the detail.
John can see light and he understands textiles are not watercolours. He deliberately sets up lights to make shadows. These images have shadows to show the texture which is one of the most distinctive elements of fibre art.
John's colours are true. Compare his images with my snaps in previous Walls Talk posts.

Earth From Above

In a past life I studied landforms, Geomorphology, then taught Geography. Even though I have done many more things since those days the shapes of the earth still fascinate me. I love to travel so I can observe humans interacting with their environments. When I can't travel I go to movies to look at the scenery, I go to photographic exhibitions and I examine glossy photographs in coffee-table books. One of my favourite photographers, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, is bringing his large scale work to North America. Take a peek at this website to see some samples of his work.

Banff Centre

Professional photographer, Willi Schmidt, spent the morning with us showing his amazing photographs taken in the Rockies and talking about how to take a good shot.

He showed us the type of camera the earlier photographers in the Rockies would have used.
