Stitching Completed on the Tree Cloths

I have stitched the last band on each of the 4 tree cloths.

Each cloth documents the growth of the tree over one year.

The cloth is a chromatic record of biological processes.

The colours and their sequence are different on each cloth.

Playing Around with Bubble Wrap

 

 

 

Kerr Grabowski says you need to/have to pop the bubbles before using the wrap.
That is a fun part of the technique.

Deconstructed Screen Session

I had another session experimenting with deconstructed screens.

Oh oh - the wet screen sagged and touched the plastic lifting off the thickened dye.

This screen, made from drapery fabric, will not hold much dye.

Daniella Woolf Encaustic Workshop

It was a great workshop. I learned lots and Daniella is an excellent instructor.

Encaustic Workshop Day 2

On day 2, while waiting for Daniella Woolf's next batch of demos, I continued to add  and scrape back layers of clear and pigmented wax on my Day 1 panels.

 

Daniella is an experienced teacher and kept giving us new techniques to work with throughout the day.

Donna Clement and I shared a palette of melted wax.

This sampler panel demonstrates different techniques and media for marking the wax surface.
Day 2 was filled with learning and exploring the encaustic medium.

Maiwa & Daniella Woolf

After waiting many years I have finally had a Maiwa Symposium experience.
I attended Daniella Woolf's encaustic workshop.

Having no experience with the encuastic medium, I was very pleased Daniella began at the beginning.

...scraped them back then added more.
It was so different from stitching and dyeing.

The Cone Sisters of Baltimore & Food Trucks

While in Vancouver recently I spent several hours looking at art work 2 sisters had collected over their lifetime.
It was captivating.

My colleague and I were so hungry after the gallery experience the line up of food trucks along the curb outside looked most appealing.

 

We settled on grilled sandwiches.
It was a most satisfying afternoon.

Company Means A Butchart Visit

When more company arrived there was another visit to the Butchart Gardens. 

This time I focused on looking past the flowers.
When I looked up I saw trees.

When I looked down I saw this interesting fern.

But I couldn't help looking at the flowers.
Many of them were buzzing with activity. 

And these new cyclamen in the Japanese Garden were eye-catching.

As was this 'brain' tree in the Japanese Garden.
It is a good exercise in 'seeing' to go back to a place many times.
